About this Website:

The writings on this website are based upon my study and teaching of works in political philosophy, the American Founding, and American history. More than forty years ago, my first introduction to political philosophy was reading Plato’s Euthyphro in a high school English class. The invitation to reflect on the question, “What is piety?” was also an invitation to a life of inquiry that I continued in the classroom as student and teacher and in my writing.

The goals of leading a good life, becoming good and thoughtful citizens, and building communities that support these endeavors are pursued through questioning and studying some of the greatest works of literature, philosophy, history, and other writings. A few are discussed on these pages.

Writings will be referenced under “Recent Posts” and will also appear under the relevant subject category.
